VanMoof needs no long introduction. The Amsterdam-based e-bike brand built a cult following for its minimal design and integrated tech before filing for bankruptcy in 2023. McLaren Applied acquired VanMoof through its subsidiary Lavoie, and the brand has since worked to rebuild trust and service infrastructure. The result is the S6, and it’s the most complete bike the company has ever shipped.
The S6 and S6 Open have been on sale in Europe since the summer of 2025, receiving very positive media, customer, and retailer reviews. This isn’t a legacy relaunch. It’s a redesigned product backed by new engineering expertise.
What the S6 Brings:
The S6 runs a 487Wh battery hidden inside the frame, a new automatic 3-speed hub gearbox, and an integrated Gen 6 Kick Lock that secures the rear wheel with a single tap. The shift from an electronic shifter to a fully mechanical AutoShift hub is one of the more meaningful changes here. It’s more reliable long-term and easier to service, which directly addresses one of the main criticisms of older VanMoof models.
The motor delivers up to 68 Nm of torque, with speed capped at 25 km/h under EU regulations. The 487Wh battery handles between 60 and 150 km of range depending on ride mode. Full power gets you roughly 37 miles. Economy mode stretches that to about 93 miles, which covers most real-world commuting scenarios comfortably.
Two Models, One Price:
The standard S6 uses 27.5-inch wheels and fits riders from 5’4″ to 6’9″. The S6 Open is the step-through version with 24-inch wheels, suited for riders from 5’1″ to 6’5″. In Europe, pricing starts at €3,298, with initial availability across the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Belgium.
The S6 series reached the UK in April 2026, priced at £3,098, with delivery available within seven days of ordering through VanMoof’s website or its 42 UK partner locations. Three colour options are available across both models: Electric Blue, Drift Black, and Pearl Mint. All bikes come with a three-year warranty as standard, which is an upgrade from previous generations.
Anti-Theft and Connectivity:
VanMoof has always leaned heavily into anti-theft as a selling point, and the S6 pushes that further. The updated anti-theft system now includes more granular location tracking alongside Apple Find My integration. The Halo Ring battery indicator is brighter and more visible in sunlight, and the redesigned Control Core manages all the electronics more efficiently.
VanMoof also launched a Ride Pro subscription in early 2025, priced at €4.99 per month or €49 per year, with a 14-day free trial. It unlocks advanced theft tracking, alarm notifications, and health app integrations. App features that were previously free remain free.
Service Network Growth:
One of the biggest gaps in the old VanMoof model was after-sales support. Owners struggled to find repair centres, and the company’s proprietary components made third-party servicing difficult. Since the McLaren Applied acquisition, VanMoof has moved away from direct servicing entirely, equipping local independent workshops with the tools, training, and original parts needed to handle repairs and retail.
By April 2026, the UK alone has 42 partner locations covering both sales and service, with VanMoof committed to expanding that network further. This is a structural improvement that matters more than any single spec upgrade.
Design Recognition and Riding Feel:
The S6 is the only e-bike to receive Gold at this year’s iF Design Awards, with the jury highlighting the design’s connection to urban mobility. That recognition isn’t just about aesthetics. The minimalist frame keeps the bike looking clean while housing all electronics internally.
The user interface has been simplified further, and the overall bike feels more refined than earlier generations. An optional suspension seatpost with 30mm of travel is available for riders who want a smoother ride on rougher urban roads.
Trade-In Option Available:
VanMoof launched a trade-in offer for older S3 and X3 owners, providing a €500 discount toward a new S5, A5, or S6. This programme ran through participating retail partners and the VanMoof website, giving previous owners a direct upgrade path into the current generation.
The Bottom Line:
VanMoof has addressed the gaps that hurt it in earlier years: serviceability, gearbox reliability, and after-sales access. The S6 is the most resolved version of a bike the brand has been refining for over a decade. If you’re looking at urban e-bikes with strong anti-theft features, clean design, and real tech integration, the VanMoof S6 sits in a category of its own.
